First time tractor buyer, looking initially at Boomer series and also JD4000 series. Noticed NH series like the 1920 and am wondering what is the difference in the series like the 1920 and the boomer series?

Unless you have seen the new TC35,40,or 45, any Boomers you are looking at are not sized to replace the 1920. The new 4cylinder TC's (listed above) offer hydrostatic transmission, fully independent PTO, telescoping draft links, and folding ROPS as improvements over the 1920 and 2120. The hydro versions offer left side differential brake controls. There are doubtless other improvements, but that is the short version. The 1920 was produced for about 10 years, and enjoys well-deserved fine reputation. The TC35,TC40, and TC45 are just reaching dealers within the last month or so, and some may not see them for a while yet. ....

The main difference is that the Boomers are a new series of New Holland tractors, were as the 1520, 1720, 1920 etc were Ford New Holland tractors. The 1720 is similar to the TC29 and the 1920 is just a tad larger than the TC33. Another difference is that the Boomers come in a standard and a Deluxe version. The Deluxe comes with items that you can't even get (as far as I know) on the other series. Like for example on the TCxxD you get a larger hydraulic pump cap., folding ROPS, Flexible Lower Link ends, 4 wrap around headlights, Live PTO both mid & rear, Breakaway hazard lights, Operators seat thats is not only fully adjustable but also turns left or right 20 deg. to save the ol neck, FWD, steering wheel that tilts & raises or lowers & lots of other neat little items that you don't ever think about, but they make life on the tractor more enjoyable.
I had planned to buy the 1620 till I saw the Boomer. Ended up buying the TC29D with R4 tires & front end loader. Great machine! The FWD has two modes; Automatic just when you need it, the tractor engages FWD & dis-engages it when your back on solid ground or Full time FWD. The tractor is in Automatic FWD unless you put it in full time FWD.
